If you are mentally healthy, you will be in the best position to manage the challenges of pregnancy and life with a new baby. It’s as important to look after your mental health and wellbeing during pregnancy as your physical health. Pregnancy can affect mental health of women. Many things can affect how you feel in pregnancy. These include physical symptoms like:
- Morning sickness,
- The support you have or don’t have.
- Stressful situations.
You may already have had a mental illness when you became pregnant. Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health problems in pregnancy. As many as 1 in 5 women have mental health problems in pregnancy or after birth. It can happen to anyone. These affect about 10 to 15 out of every 100 pregnant women. You can have many different types of mental illness.
Symptoms of mental illness in pregnancy are similar to symptoms you have at other times, but some may focus on the pregnancy. For instance, you may have anxious or negative thoughts about your pregnancy or your baby. You may find changes in your weight and shape difficult, particularly if you have had an eating disorder. Sometimes symptoms caused by your pregnancy can be confused with symptoms of mental illness. For example:
- Broken sleep
- Lack of energy are common in both pregnancy and depression.

Mental health Problems during pregnancy: Women experiences mental health issues during the pregnancy as well as after the birth.For some people, pregnancy can lead to conditions such as:

Depression

Anxiety
-
Bipolar disorder (less common)
Treatment for mental health problems during pregnancy, It’s just as important to have treatment for mental health problems as it is for physical health problems in pregnancy. Both medication and psychological therapies treatments are available.
Pregnancy has its ups and downs, it’s time to seek advice from a health professional. Keep a lookout for signs that you may need help, and be ready to take action if you need to:

If you are showing signs of depression, feeling hopeless or unable to cope, or such as losing interest.

If you start having panic attacks, or develop obsessive.

Negative feelings and thoughts are starting to affect your ability to function normally.
-If you have felt consistently sad or worried for longer than 2 weeks.
Take help and support. Talk to your doctor, partner, or someone else you trust.
How to manage your mental health during pregnancy:
There are so many things that you can do to manage your mental health.

Make connections with other expectant parents, and talk to them.

Keep physical active.

Eat healthy meal regularly.

Spend time with people who make you feel relaxed and good about yourself.
