Sometimes they only want you,
to read them a story before bed snuggled right into you,
to lay next to them, hands clasped together, while they close their eyes,
to make them their favorite snack the way they like it,
to play a game of chase where you catch and tickle them to the ground,
to give pain-healing kisses to their boo-boos that make everything better,
to help them use the potty,
and to dance around the kitchen to their favorite song.
And that will continue no matter their age.
Though it will be different,
they will still only want you,
to wipe their tears when they go through a breakup,
to let them know everything will be okay,
to advise them to say “no” when they can’t themselves,
to babysit their kids when they take their partner to dinner,
and to talk to about everything “baby,” and soak in your opinion..
Because they trust you,
they know how much you love and support them,
and you’re their person.
